I am so proud of the work that my students have done in AP Human Geography. Here are some culture cards from our unit on culture. We had a ton of fun with this unit.

AP Human Geography students at Midland Valley High are beginning their study on human geography. We've talked about regions, situation, site, location and more, but there is nothing like applying concepts to real life. One lesson that sparked interest and compassion during class was the viral video on the turtle with the straw in his nose. We watched the 2 minute version and read an article in the Wall Street Journal about the ban on straws that this video triggered. The video was an example of contagious diffusion, but the ban on straws is an example of hierarchical diffusion because Kim Kardashian got involved with a social media post. Now, companies from Starbucks to American Airlines are considering, if they haven't already, banning straws. The students had various opinions, but for a real world scenario, I created a multimedia company where each of the students is an intern. Their task was to create a campaign to push companies to support the ban on straws. In this exercise we explore the three pillars of sustainability: Environmental, Societal and Economic. The students were split into groups to complete multimedia projects: 1. A Video PSA using Apple Clips 2. An Audio PSA using Garage Band 3. A Blog Post using Adobe Spark Notes 4. A Social Media Campaign Poster using Adobe Spark Notes Enjoy the student's work. I'm a very proud teacher! Clips Videos
